In 2005, Yoko Ono installed “Sky TV for Hokkaido” at the Tokachi Millennium Forest, located on the Tokachi plains at the skirts of the Hidaka mountains. She used a deserted farmhouse that once belonged to the Narukawa family of pioneering farmers, and reinvigorated it as an artwork. On the premises, she installed 15 “Sky TV” monitors with projections of the sky. The walls, floors, windows and ceilings of the farmhouse, she inscribed with various suggestive words, in what she then titled “Blue Room Event.” Inside the estate, Ono calmly recited instructions related to the sky in both Japanese and English, and a video was played in the background. The old maple tree in the garden became the “Wish Tree,” reminiscent of the old days, while “Cloud Piece” was set up on the ground to catch the clouds trickling down from the sky. For this P3 exhibition, the works that Ono had originally realized in natural settings in Hokkaido, were reconstructed and reinstalled in the gallery and other points on the premises of the Tochoji Zen Temple. P3 showcased every facet of “Sky TV for Hokkaido” using numerous photographs and various parts of the work, including Ono’s hand-written notes for the “Blue Room Event.”
