Contemporary Art Biennale of Fukushima 2012

11 August - 23 September 2012
Location: Fukushima Airport, others

This art festival was launched in 2004 around an executive committee comprising students of Fukushima University, and the university’s own “Institute of Regional Creation by Arts.” The festival in 2012, themed around “Sora (sky),” was held as part of the post-earthquake reconstruction activities in the region. For this occasion, P3 coordinated the realization of Yoko Ono’s work “Sky Piece for Fukushima.” Based on Ono’s written instructions, contributors from the general public drew pictures of the sky onto 35cm pieces of cloth, which were then sewn together to create one large work that was eventually displayed at Fukushima Airport. Also shown at the airport was the “Onochord” installation in which the message “I love you” was communicated through light signals, while “Sky TV” was set up inside the Fukushima Airport Park.
