Mi-Yeon is a photographer who was born and raised in Seoul, studied photography in Paris, and is currently based in Tokyo. Her catalog of works includes the series “Existence” that explores the certainties and uncertainties of existence, through photographs of the sky, streetscapes, daily life sceneries, roadside weeds, etc. Her daughter’s second birthday was a special occasion that made the artist aware of the beauty of the special time that a second birthday marks in a person’s life, and that new fascination inspired her to start taking pictures of two-year-old children.
On display at this exhibition were about 100 black-and-white photographs of a total of over 70 children at the age of two. The program further included concerts, workshops and film screenings that were all related to the exhibition in one way or another, each highlighting aspects of individual “existence” in the here and now.
