Summer 2008 - summer 2012
Location: Tokachi Millennium Forest
Shigeaki Iwai is an artist who has been attempting to reconstruct communities and conventions through audiovisual installations themed around the relationship between the human individual and society. ”The Field of Nusa” was installed at the Tokachi Millennium Forest, Hokkaido, as one of Iwai’s art projects.
In workshops at locations across Japan, participants ranging from children to adults have been creating things from clay since 2006. The resulting small, pure-white ceramic objects, of which no two are exactly the same, were spread out in the open nature of the Tokachi Millennium Forest. This white field is also a gift that connects us living today, with the people who lived in the past, and with those who will live in the future.
In the bigger stream of time, in the future so far away
you can't touch, yet you have to face.
