6 February - 26 February 1998
Location: Tochoji Temple Auditorium P3
At this event Iwai created an installation of images and sounds using 15 video monitors and six projectors that projected images of people conversing in their own languages. It was as if they were communicating with each other using telepathy. There were images of people conversing in groups of four, with each group consisting of people of various races and nationalities. From interviews of 80 people over a period of a year Iwai compiled images of 60 people from 42 different countries.
By placing individuals on a world map of language, the exhibition questioned the possibility and impossibility of communication within a multicultural society.
Given the reality of multicultural societies, a series of talks by sociologists, photographers and other individuals was also organized. As well, the artist asked for the extensive participation of others in the project.
