The cornetist Butch Morris, who used to be active in the free jazz scene, developed Conduction as a method for “conducting” an improvised musical performance by the movements of his hands. The program incorporated a video screening and talk event in September 1992, and public workshops and Conduction performances on Japanese and western instruments in March 1993.
