2002 - 2016

The Asahi Art Festival was a celebration of art that was started in 2002 by Asahi Beer, in cooperation with citizens’ groups and nonprofit organizations engaged in art-related activities. P3 art and environment provided general guidelines for the first AAF 2002, and served as its managing office since AAF 2003. By eliminating the position of general director, the festival adopted a unique organizational style of being managed by an executive committee. Implementing an open process, it has become a meeting place for various creative activities across Japan, on both a big and small scale, generating more ideas and projects that in turn inspired new developments in the local art scenes.

The festival has been considered to be one of many activities that accelerate the trend of citizens taking the initiative in launching actions instead of the government, and was expected to have tremendous potential as a factory or seed bed for the spontaneous generation and development of ideas and projects.
